Alex des Forges is motivated by aligning the needs of the user and the business.
That’s me on the right, yes.

Who is Alex des Forges?

In spite of the French name ( whose origins stem from the late 1640’s when French Huguenots escaped persecution by emigrating to the UK ), I am a British born 30 something, enjoying exploring as much of the world’s offerings as possible… what an honour to explore this earth!

Based in the lovely lively UK city of Bristol, I have been working in the web and interactive arena for the last 10 years, after completing a degree in Graphic Design ( 2:1 ) back in 2004.

From early 2012 I worked at Ents24 Ltd, the UK’s largest live entertainment listings site, serving millions of visitors per year.

In April 2017, I commence a new journey at Booking.com in Amsterdam… let’s see how it goes!

Main work skills

– User centered interactive design
– Usability research and testing
– Designing, implementing and analyzing AB Tests
– Adobe Design Suite
– Working on large PHP based Github source controlled sites
– Project planning & management
– Creating ideas to mockups to visual design to briefing developers
– Copywriting and editing
– Occasional Print Design

What motivates you?

Work wise, I am motivated by the goal of delighting users by creating simple, engaging experiences whilst increasing conversion rates and therefore aligning the needs of both user and business.

Career highlight so far?

I was the UX Design lead from concept to testing on Ents24’s new app, GigAlert. The app was featured on the front page of the Apple app store as a ‘best new app’, which was elating to see.

Working for a company who promote a product or service I believe in is something I always strive for.

Outside of ‘work’ time?

Outside of design-ux-y stuff, I particularly enjoy getting out into nature, dramatic scenery, extreme-ish sports, live music, recorded music ( particularly prog / psychedelic / electronic ), urban exploring, yoga, weights, attempting to keep fit, travels and things like discovering hidden gems in offbeat locations. I play drums and occasionally perform live in an audio-visual project called Block.
